Rehearsed readings every month

Saturday Matinée

Rehearsed Readings of Short Plays and Spoken Word

2.45pm Last Sat of Every Month at the Old Queens Head, N1

Hot on the success of the regular Bare Bones new writing nights currently running at another lovely pub venue just down the road, the same team now bring you Saturday Matinée. The show runs on the last Saturday afternoon of every month, presenting new short plays as rehearsed readings and in the wonderful Victorian living room complete with its own bar.

Trying to attract as many new Matinée goers as possible, the team will only charge a 'pay what you can' fee on the door and hope to build up a group of regular visitors happy to drop in once a month to see some of the finest new writing in the UK. There will be an opportunity to give feedback afterwards in the bar for those who would like to, however this is totally optional - notes scribbled on cards or emails are also most welcome! The afternoon will also be a fantastic opportunity for emerging directors based in London to direct new writing with very little time commitment - something the team felt was desperately needed by directors and actors alike to maintain the skills they have worked so hard to gain.

Producer Rebecca Adamson has teamed up with director Luisa Hinchliff to produce this new show. Luisa recently assisted Anna Ledwich on 'Lulu', the latest in the New Directions collaborations between the Gate Theatre and Headlong. Luisa and Rebecca met through a directing programme run by the Young Vic Theatre in South London. They wanted to create an informal event where people could come along to their local, have a beer and a good pub lunch and get to see some theatre to boot. Emerging writers and directors are given a platform to have their work heard without the pressure of pushing the piece straight into a scratch night at a theatre.
